FINAL NEWS

Sadly the time has come when, having led tens of thousands of people up the garden path on many thousands of near-consecutive evenings, I am retiring to France to a less onorous life at dusk. That is not to say that I have not enjoyed more than I can say the privilege of sharing a moving wildlife experience with so many like-minded visitors of all ages and from all over the world.

I shall miss the badgers, foxes and deer which have been such a compelling part of my life here as I shall miss, too, the companionship and enthusiasm brought by those who have watched with me. I am acutely aware of the continuing stream of would-be watchers who, over the years ahead, would have walked the same path and come away with memories which they are now denied. I am truly sorry about this and I wrestled long and hard with all the possibilities of retaining a permanent facility.

In the end it was clear that the lie of the land here is such that it is simply impossible to split it without impinging on the privacy of future owners of the main property. It breaks my heart to have to end it, but in reality there is no other choice. The compensation is that there are many who will not forget often their first, and almost always their closest, encounter with our indomitable stripey-faced friend.
